Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans fresh, trimmed
  • 0.33 cup water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 12-inch skillet

Method

  1. Place the green beans and water in a 12-inch skillet and cover.
  2. Cook over medium-high heat for 4 to 6 minutes, until bright green and crisp-tender.
  3. Carefully drain any remaining water.
  4. Return the skillet to medium heat and add the butter.
  5. When the butter is melted, stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  6. Toss the beans to coat and season with the salt and pepper.

Notes

For crisp-tender beans, drain the water carefully as soon as they reach the desired texture. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days; freezing is not recommended because the beans may soften. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter.
